Broceliande is located about 35km west of Rennes, and CIREFE took us on an excursion there. It was pretty neat!
There are all kinds of legends surrounding the forest. Merlin hung out there with the fairies Morgan and Vivian, as well as the young woman in white who haunts the area around the Chateau de Trecesson. Plus it's just gorgeous in general. Watch out for pixies though! They aren't your friends!
L'arbre d'or - An artist was commissioned to create a permanent piece of art in the forest, so he chose a tree that looked like deer antlers and covered it in real gold leaf.
A little kitty showed up to join our lunch!
Beautiful. Supposedly this place is a crossing of Earth's energy fields.
La Fountain de Barenton - This fountain is very connected to Arthurian legend. Yes there are places in Britain and Bretagne that could be related to King Arthur, but this is the only place that is consistently described throughout history as it appears in Broceliande.
Just a thousand year old oak tree. No big deal.
L'abbaye de Paimpoint
The hedge is the symbolic gateway between the human world and the fairy world.
Me at the Chateau de Trecesson. It's haunted.
Only those with pure hearts may enter safely.
The water is orange because of high iron levels. Go water! Compasses do not work in this forest.
One of many Merlin's Tombs. (But the only real one, of course!) I wrote a wish on a piece of paper and stuck it in the small crack in the rock there.
It was a good day! I'd like to go back with fewer people to have more time to hike and explore.
